SO FROM THAT, WE HAVE RECOMMENDED, RECOMMENDED PROGRAM SERVICES AND IMPROVE NEEDS TO BETTER SERVE THE COMMUNITY. SO CHAPTER 8, 2 3, UM, STANDARDS OF ANIMAL SHELTERS. SO THERE'S ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER TRAINING, UM, MAKING SURE THAT ANIMALS ARE SEPARATED IN OUR CUSTODY BY SPECIES SEX AND SIZE. UM, OUR ENCLOSURES HAVE SOLID WALLS TO PREVENT ANY PHYSICAL CONTACT BETWEEN THE ANIMALS. UM, THE ENCLOSURE HAS TO HAVE A TOP AND PREVENT ESCAPE, AND THE KETTLES HAVE TO HAVE LIKE SPECIFIC SIGNAGE STATING THAT THESE ARE RABIES FOREIGN TWO MALE. UM, OUR SHELTER INSPECTIONS ARE DONE YEARLY AND WE ALWAYS PASS, UM, KNOCK ON WOOD. UM, AND THEY USUALLY COME IN ON IN DETAIL, OR SOMETIMES THEY'RE HERE LIKE IN AUGUST, UM, AND IT IS A SURPRISE INSPECTION. SO THEY JUST COME IN AND THEY'RE LIKE, HELLO. AND I SHOW THEM AROUND AND THEY DO THEIR LITTLE INSPECTION AND, UH, MAKE, SHOW YOU WHAT THE INSPECTION SHEET LOOKS LIKE. SO THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE TO PASS. AND THEN A VETERINARIAN ALSO HAS TO GO THROUGH AND DO THE SAME INSPECTION AS WELL. SO BACK TO, UH, THE FACILITIES FOR QUARANTINING AND IMPOUNDING ANIMALS, UM, WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING AT IS THE HOUSING. UH, DO WE HAVE ELECTRICAL POWER? IS IT ADEQUATE? DO WE HAVE WATER? IS IT CLEAN AND FRESH? IS OUR STORAGE, UH, PROTECTING AGAINST INFESTATION? IS, [00:05:01] UM, REFRIGERATION AVAILABLE FOR PERISHABLE FOODS? ARE OUR BAGS OPEN OR STORED IN, UH, APPROPRIATE CONTAINERS? UM, IF THERE'S UNOPENED BAGS STACKED ON PELLETS, THEY NEED TO BE 12 INCHES OFF OF THE FLOOR, MAKING SURE OUR FLOORS ARE DURABLE, MOISTURE RESISTANT, SMOOTH AND SEALED CEMENT FLOORS, ESPECIALLY FOR THE DOG KETTLES. UM, SO THAT WAY THEY'RE PROPERLY SLOPED SO THAT THE WATER GOES DOWN INTO THE DRAIN. IT MAKES IT EASIER FOR CLEANING AND IT HELPS KEEP THE FLOORS FROM STAYING WET AND DAMP, MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE PROPER WASTE DISPOSAL. SO IS IT SANITARY? DOES, UM, DO WE HAVE A STIC TANK OR SPECIFIC GARBAGE AREA KEEPING ODORS AND THE SPREAD OF DISEASE TO A MINIMUM? OUR WASHROOMS AND SINKS PROVIDING SPECIFIC AREAS FOR THE STAFF TO BE ABLE TO SANITIZE, UM, PROPER HYGIENE TECHNIQUES, MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE GLOVES ON HAND AND THE PROPER DISINFECTING TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT. ANOTHER PORTION OF THAT IS MAKING SURE MANAGEMENT IS PROPERLY TRAINED. UM, AND WE HAVE A VETERINARIAN ON STAFF TO ALSO KEEP AN EYE ON UP ARE UNDER QUARANTINE, HEATING IS INSULATION AND COOLING. SO, UM, THE TEMPERATURE GOES BELOW 50. WE CAN PROVIDE A ADDITIONAL HEATING, DRY BEDDING, UH, CARRON BEDS, BLANKETS, TOWELS, THAT KIND OF STUFF. UM, IF IT'S OVER 85 DEGREES, DO WE HAVE FANS AIR CONDITIONING, VENTILATION THAT'S EFFICIENT. UM, AND THEN IN CERTAIN WEATHER CONDITIONS, MAKING SURE THAT WE PROVIDE SHADE AND PROTECT THE ANIMALS FROM THE SUN. UM, MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE DRY AND NOT IN THE RAIN, UM, AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE UP TO DATE WITH THE GUIDELINES BY THE ASSOCIATION OF SHELTER VETERINARIANS. UM, WE'RE STRUCTURALLY SOUND. EVERYTHING IS COMFORTABLE. UH, THE ANIMALS STAY DRY, CLEAN. OUR, OUR KENNELS ARE, UH, PROTECTING 'EM FROM INJURING THEMSELVES. UM, THEY DON'T ABSORB, ABSORB MOISTURE, AND THEY HAVE PROPER ACCESS TO FOOD AND WATER. SO THIS IS GOING ON TO THE RABIES CONTROL ASPECT OF THE STATE LAW. UM, MAKING SURE THAT WHENEVER THE ANIMALS COME TO OUR CARE, WE VACCINATE THEM, UH, ESPECIALLY THE ONES THAT ARE FOUR MONTHS AGE OF OR OLDER. SO THEY WOULD RECEIVE A BOOSTER WITHIN 12 MONTHS FOLLOWING THE INITIAL VACCINE. AND THIS VACCINATION IS DONE BY A VETERINARIAN. SO WHENEVER DR. GANS IS HERE, SHE'S THE ONE WHO ADMINISTERS THE RABIES VACCINATIONS. UM, WE DON'T DO REGISTERING YEARLY ANYMORE. UM, BUT THE OWNERS, THEY'RE WELCOME TO KEEP THAT TAG FROM THEIR VETERINARIAN IF THEY WANT TO. WE DON'T DO REGISTRATIONS BECAUSE WE ARE MICROCHIP NOW. SO MICROCHIPS FOREVER, RIGHT? HE VACCINATION. AND WE'VE, WE'VE HAD, IT'S NOT, IT DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN, BUT IT DOES HAPPEN WHERE WE DO A HOME QUARANTINE. UM, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO STAY HERE FOR THOSE 90 DAYS. UM, BUT CURRENTLY VACCINATED ANIMALS HAVE BEEN BITTEN OR EXPOSED TO RABBIT ANIMALS, UH, CAN BE QUARANTINED FOR 45 DAYS INSTEAD OF THE 90 DAYS, THE RELEASE OR DISPOSITION OF QUARANTINED ANIMALS. UM, SO WE DETERMINE IF THE ANIMAL IS SHOWING ANY SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS OF RABIES. IF IT DOESN'T SHOW ANY SYMPTOMS, THEN IT'S WELCOME TO GO BACK HOME. UM, EVERYTHING IS IS GOOD. THEY JUST HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEIR PET IS VACCINATED FOR RABIES, UH, WITHIN 48 HOURS. UH, AND THEN THEY WOULD JUST SHOW US PROOF OF THAT WHENEVER THEY BRING IT TO US OR EMAIL IT. THEY HAVE TO PAY THE COST FOR THE QUARANTINE, AND THAT IS $10 A DAY HERE AT THE SHELTER. UM, THEY COULD RECEIVE CITATIONS IF THEY FAILED TO QUARANTINE THEIR PARENTS. THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN, BUT THERE ARE SOME. AND THEN, UM, THE NEXT IS ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER OF TRAINING. SO WE HAVE A MINIMUM OF MAKING SURE THAT THE OFFICERS HAVE SPECIFIC TRAINING IN ANIMAL HEALTH, DISEASE CONTROL, HUMANE CARE AND TREATMENT OF ANIMALS, CONTROL OF ANIMALS IN THE SHELTER AND THE TRANSPORTATION OF ANIMALS. AND THEY HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST 30 HOURS OF CONTINUING EDUCATION EVERY THREE YEARS. SO THEY HAVE TO COMPLETE, UM, THE BASE ANIMAL CONTROL COURSE, UH, NO LATER THAN THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY, THE DATE THEY WILL HIRE. SO ALL OF THAT ASIDE, UM, NOW ONTO, SO THE REASON, I MEAN, JUST LET ME INTERJECT. YES. THE REASON WE KIND OF GO OVER THAT EVERY TIME WE HAVE A . SO ONE OF THE CHARGES ACCORDING TO THE STATE LAW, SAYS THAT THE ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISOR COMMISSION IS TO ENSURE THAT WE AS AN ANIMAL SERVICES, MUNICIPAL ANIMAL SERVICES OPERATION ARE FOLLOWING STATE LAWS. WELL, IT JUST, IN ACTUAL ME, YOU SHOULD AT LEAST KIND OF GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THOSE LAWS ARE.
