AND, AND I, I, SO I APPRECIATE EVERYBODY HERE AND ALL THE WORK THAT YOU DO.PHIL BAILEY WAS SOMEBODY THAT PARTICIPATED IN A WEEKLY POP RIDE. IT'S ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR CYCLING RIDES IN RICHARDSON. IT TAKES PLACE ON TUESDAYS AND THURSDAY NIGHTS OVER AT CUSTER PARK. THEY MEET IN THE PARKING LOT, AND THEN AS A TEAM, THEY GO AND THEY CYCLE LIKE 36, 39 MILES, SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THIS IS SOMETHING I CARE DEEPLY ABOUT, ESPECIALLY IN OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. RIGHT AFTER THAT EVENT, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO WITNESS SOMETHING THAT I HAD NOT HAD A CHANCE TO DO UP TILL THEN, BUT THERE ARE A GROUP OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT OUR ISD THAT HAD DECIDED TO START A PROGRAM CALLED BRIDGE THE GAP FOR KIDS, AND THEY HAD A READING EVENT.
THEY'VE BEEN READING TO PEOPLE WITH DIFFICULTY READING AT DOVER ELEMENTARY AND HAVE BEEN DOING THAT FOR THE GREATER PART OF THIS. LAST SCHOOL YEAR. REALLY IMPRESSIVE WORK BY OUR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO CREATED THIS PROGRAM ON THEIR OWN, AND SOMETHING THAT WAS JUST REALLY COOL TO, TO SEE, AND SOMETHING THAT I'M HOPING TO BE ABLE TO BE A PART OF IN THE FUTURE. YOUNG PEOPLE TAKING THAT OPPORTUNITY. I ALSO HAD A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO AN EAGLE SCOUT EVENT FOR NICHOLAS ENSMINGER. HE IS A PART OF TROOP 263, AND I ACTUALLY GOT TO SIT WITH OUR FORMER CITY MANAGER, WHO KNEW NICHOLAS PERSONALLY. TROOP 263, IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THEM, ARE A SPECIAL NEEDS TROOP. AND IT WAS REALLY COOL TO SEE THREE DIFFERENT EAGLES BE HONORED THAT DAY FROM THAT TROOP. IT TAKES A LOT MORE TIME AND A LOT MORE EFFORT FOR THOSE SCOUTS TO BE ABLE TO GET THOSE EAGLE DESIGNATIONS. AND SO IT WAS A GREAT WAY TO SPEND A LITTLE BIT OF TIME ON SUNDAY. AND THEN LASTLY, EARLIER TODAY, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN MY TIME, I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN THE COLLIER CARES LUNCHEON. WE GOT A CHANCE TO GO TO THE COLLIER CENTER WHEN WE GOT A CHANCE TO MEET WITH PRESIDENT MCGHEE OVER AT UTD. BUT TO HEAR SOME OF THE TESTIMONIALS OF HOW PEOPLE ARE IMPACTED BY WHAT'S GOING ON RIGHT HERE IN RICHARDSON. REALLY COOL STUFF.
